Which Fizz Pairs Best with Breakfast – Champagne or Prosecco?

Whether you enjoy egg, bacon, kippers or yoghurt and fruit for breakfast which fizz pairs best – Champagne or Prosecco?
I decided to try out some different breakfast options and pair them with Jean Pierre Launois Champagne Brut-Blanc De Blancs and 7 Cascine Prosecco, available from Spar to see which pairs best.
Jean Pierre Launois Champagne won Gold in Classic and Elegant in the 2017 Glass of Bubbly Awards.

Let’s Start With Our First Dish
Jean Pierre Launois Champagne Pairing Notes: “The Champagne slightly overpowers the egg to start with, but the savoury flavours of the egg suddenly appear midlength and overall creates a good balance.”
7 Cascine Prosecco Pairing Notes: “The Prosecco really shines through with this pairing.”
The Champagne paired better.
The egg combined with the Champagne was Eve Walkey’s (Executive Editor) favourite combination.
Scrambled Egg and Salmon
Jean Pierre Launois Champagne Pairing Notes: “It comes in about 60% Champagne and 40% egg and salmon, with it combining a little better at the end.”
7 Cascine Prosecco Pairing Notes: “After the egg lost first time around with the Prosecco it comes back stronger with help from the salmon shining over the Prosecco.”
The Prosecco paired better with this dish.
Jean Pierre Launois Champagne Pairing Notes: “A nice combination, they blend together very well with the initial burst of fruit flavours from the Champagne, then the savoury kipper kicks in.”
7 Cascine Prosecco Pairing Notes: “The Prosecco enters quietly into the mouth and then disappears completely leaving you the kippers to enjoy.”
The Champagne is the worthy winner with the kipper.
The Kipper combined with the Champagne was Christopher Walkey’s (Founder) favourite combination.
Bacon Sandwich with Tomato Ketchup
Jean Pierre Launois Champagne Pairing Notes: “There is a clashy overtake from the Champagne, at the very end you can taste the crispiness from the bacon.”
7 Cascine Prosecco Pairing Notes: “Crispy bacon flavours initially with the enjoyable fruity flavours from the Prosecco with good length.”
The Prosecco is preferred with this pairing.
Bacon Sandwich with Brown Sauce
Jean Pierre Launois Champagne Pairing Notes: ” The acidity of the Champagne overtakes the dish.”
7 Cascine Prosecco Pairing Notes: “The sweetness of the Prosecco and the brown sauce work well together.”
The Prosecco creates a nice sweet taste, so the Prosecco wins this one.
Yoghurt and Fruit
Jean Pierre Launois Champagne Pairing Notes: “The Champagne comes in positioning under the fruit and yoghurt, allowing the fruit and yoghurt to lead the charge in mid-palate with the Champagne adding a new creamy flavour.”
7 Cascine Prosecco Pairing Notes: “The Prosecco overpowers the fruit and yoghurt then at the end you get the taste of the blueberries.”
The Champagne wins this one for the great combination of fruit and fizz. (This dish was made with greek yoghurt, blueberries and strawberries)
The yoghurt and fruit paired with the Champagne was my favourite combination.
Jean Pierre Launois Champagne paired best with 3 of the meals, the scrambled egg, kipper and yoghurt and fruit.
7 Cascine Prosecco paired best with 3 of the meals, the scrambled egg and salmon and both bacon sandwiches.
This shows you how fizz is so versatile pairing with food and trying different types of fizz with the same food will give you different tasting experiences.
