Do Burgers And Fizz Pair Well Together?
Gusbourne English Sparkling Wine
The original Gusbourne Estate in Appledore, Kent dates back to 1410. The de Goosebourne family crest was made up of three geese, each and every bottle of wine crafted at Gusbourne carries a contemporary goose crest in honour of their heritage. This ‘Goosemark’ is a symbol of trust, representing their pursuit of uncompromising quality.
They have 60 hectares at Gusbourne Estate in Kent and 30 hectares in West Sussex that are planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

- Iceland Vegetable Burger
- Linda McCartney’s Vegetable Mozzarella Quarter Pounder
- Birdseye Chicken Quarter Pounder 100% Chicken Breast
- Aberdeen Angus Quarter Pounder 100% British Beef from Iceland
Iceland Vegetable Burger
Gusbourne: “The vegetables come in as the life of the party, then the Sparkling Wine enters and the acidity calms down the situation to turn in into a quite gathering”
Laurent Lequart: “The vegetables enter first, but the Champagne is much stronger”
The English Sparkling Wine Gusbourne wins this combination.
Linda McCartney’s Vegetable Mozzarella Quarter Pounder
Gusbourne: “Gusbourne comes in strong, but then underlines the burger only to then make a strong finish”
Laurent Lequart: “Laurent Lequart complements the burger allowing both to shine”
Laurent Lequart was my favourite, a great combination.
Birdseye Chicken Quarter Pounder 100% Chicken Breast
Gusbourne: “The flavour of the Gusbourne overwhelms the chicken making it more or less non-existent, but the combination does create an interesting mixture”
Laurent Lequart: “Halfway through the mix, the Champagne throws a punch, but other than that the combination is a little lacking”
Neither worked perfectly to bring out both flavours, even though the Gusbourne didn’t allow the Chicken to shine it was still a nice combination.
Aberdeen Angus Quarter Pounder 100% British Beef from Iceland
Gusbourne: “An interesting combination, a good mixture both helping each other to create a pleasant taste”
Laurent Lequart: “It slips right through the burger leaving a small amount of Champagne, this allows you to enjoy the Champagne without taking away from the burger”
Both Laurent Lequart and Gusbourne work very well with this burger, but if I had to give it to one it would be Gusbourne.
To answer the question Do Burgers And Fizz Pair Well Together? It would be yes, different Sparkling Wines and Champagnes will create different combinations, some will work better than others, but out of the ones I tried, there was definitely some enjoyable combinations, so I recommend you try this for yourself, get out a nice bottle of Fizz and cook a burger or two and make an evening out of it.
